The Great Fantasy Summer Bicycle Tour
yes we're all 190 of us getting on our bike and cycling over the hills and (not very) far away
Thurs 10 july - lunch time concert the bandstand, castle park. "And they're off"
10 July - evening, The Rondo Theatre Bath 8-10pm
Fri 11 July, The Three Horseshoes, Bradford On Avon 5-7pm
Sat 12 July, busking in Frome 5pm
Sun 13th - back to bristol
still to find: somewhere to camp each night, somewhere to play in frome and perhaps on sunday also. any ideas?

What everyone should bring:

Waterproof pannier bags
Water bottle
comfortable clothes for cycling and one change in case you get wet through
Waterproofs
Helmet and gloves
Bike lights and spare batteries
Some should bring:

Puncture repair kit
Spare brake pads
Route map

I think we should plan in some opportunities for swimming! For example at Claverton Weir http://www.wildswimming.co.uk/map/claverton-weir-avon/ and also Dundas Aqueduct which I think should be on the way from Bath to Bradford.

Re: The Great Fantasy Summer Bicycle Tour
Been having a look at camp sites. There isn't much that seems very suitable in Bath, there are a couple of sites which are halfway to Bradford, I assume we don't want to cycle another half hour uphill after the gig and then set up tents in the dark!
Maybe the Newton Mill Holiday park would be suitable (BA2 9JF)? It's kind of on the way into Bath, so could pop in there, set up tents and then go into Bath with instruments only?
In Bradford, Merkins Farm (hur hur) seems ok?
In Frome you can camp on a vegetable farm, seems fun. http://www.vallisveg.co.uk/pages/camping.php

jess viola says:
A friend of a friend's parents own a campsite near Bradford on Avon. It's called Stowford Manor
http://stowfordmanorfarm.co.uk/
They are about 20 mins cycle ride to the three horseshoes.
I have phoned them and they are up for opening up a seperate field for us non Friday 11th -not the main campsite.
This means we would be slightly further from the toilets and use of showers may be limited (as in we might not be able to have one) but there is a river we can swim in nearby.
They would charge us £5 per head because of limited use of facilities.
Ive stayed at this campsite before and it is lovely
What does everyone think?
I spoke to Newton Mill Holiday Park which is the closest campsite to Bath. About 15/20 min cycle ride. http://www.newtonmillpark.co.uk/park-and-gardens.php
It does look like more of a caravan site so perhaps not picturesque but they can fit all of us there and they would charge us about £8.50 per person?
I said Id let him know by tomorrow....

I saw the Newton Mill as well for our Bath leg - yes only 20ish mins on bike from apparently.... https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Newton+ ... 1?hl=en-US
Your friend of a friend's campsite sounds nearest and cheap to me Jess! Well done

Re: The Great Fantasy Summer Bicycle Tour
How many of us are actually going?
Re: The Great Fantasy Summer Bicycle Tour
Hey cyclists
So after lots of thoughts about different campsites this is what I reckon....
I think we should camp at Newton Mill on Thursday 10th as it's only 15 mins cycle from Bath. We would have cycled quite a lot that day and the others are more like 40 mins cycle from Bath so I reckon we'd appreciate a slightly shorter ride home. It might not be that picturesque but we could stay a bit longer for drinks in Bath perhaps.
I reckon we should stay at Stowford manor the following night which is what a lot of people suggested. We could leave Newton Mill early so we get a swim in before the gig in Bradford on Avon.
Bang-the campsite is right by the Farleigh Hungerford swimming spot and it's so lush. They even sell cream teas on site-whoop!
I have called both to book and they will be calling me back tomorrow to confirm but should be fine.
I will get on with finding a campsite in Frome later on.
I will post info on the forum once Ive got confirmation.
Hope that's ok
See you all tomorrow
Jess xx
