Midsummer Party/Festival 14-16 June 2019

Post by stan_trumpet »

When is it ?

Friday 14th June @ 14.00 - Sunday 16th June @18:00 2019

How to get there and website

http://ashenplains.co.uk/location.html

The Postcode is GL11 6AD, but DON'T RELY ON THAT IN YOUR SATNAV. "Ashen Plains Campsite" will work in Google Maps. We will put some signs up on the A4135 south east of Dursley to guide you. Suggest you ether come through Dursley or from east via M4 A46 A4135 ( easiest drive ). Don't try the small road via Waterley Bottom - there's a v steep hairpin and if its slippery, you'll be in big trouble

When you get there, go along the track, straight through the public camping area, through a gate or two, keep on going when you think it can't be this far, and you'll find us

Parking

It'll be clear where to park. You can drive into the camping area to drop off heavy items. Don't park there. There may be small children around so be careful
If you have a campervan, you're welcome to set up in the camping area if you're not driving on and off site.

Our Hosts

Our hosts, Dave and Julie, are pretty cool about most things, but please respect them and their staff. Notably when it comes to noise. There are neighbours to consider, so we'll have a 11pm curfew on amplified music. We've got silent disco kit for Saturday so we can carry on later

About the site

We'll have the private camping field all to ourselves. Please do not bring glass glasses. Especially wine glasses . If you do break any glass, clear it up immediately - the field may be trodden by bare feet and animals after you.

What to bring

Camping gear, obviously, instruments and music, dressing up stuff, well behaved dogs, things to decorate your tent and the site ( lights, flags, bunting etc ), food to share and something for the barbie on Friday evening, cake for Saturday afternoon, reusable plates, cutlery, cups and mugs

Waste and Recycling

Try to avoid single use plastic. It's difficult when buying food, but at least be aware if you can't avoid it. Think about where it might end up - in landfill, an incinerator, a river in Asia, a fish in the pacific.

Everything you bring on site must be removed afterwards. So any bottles, cans, food packaging or anything else you bring on site, take it away with you. You are responsible for removing all your waste and recycling. Yes, YOU !. We'll provide bin bags. Please help anybody not coming in a vehicle to dispose of theirs.

DO NOT dump it anywhere and expect someone to take care of it. That will be one of your fellow members. They won't be happy about it. There's no trash fairy......

Fire Pit

There is a large fire pit around which we can assemble until the early hours. We'll have someone in charge to keep things burning bright. No fires are allowed elsewhere.

Food

Friday evening - - A communal "bring and share" barbie. Bring a suitable something of food to share. Not too much though. There is a fridge for perishable items. As with waste, take all your unused food with you

Saturday Breakfast - The Ashen Plains food wagon will be open from 8am for you to buy breakfast
Saturday Lunch - Self catering
Saturday Tea - Tea will be served. Bring cakes !
Saturday Evening - A selection of curries and rice ( with Vege/Vegan option ) will be provided by our hosts ( included in ticket price ). Bring your own plates and cutlery

Sunday Breakfast - The Ashen Plains food wagon will be open from 8am for you to buy breakfast
Sunday Lunch - A short ramble to the pub

Drink

There will be a bar on Friday and Saturday evening, closing at 11pm. You can BYO alcohol, but the terms of their licence mean it cannot be consumed in the bar area ( i.e the barn )

What's on

Friday

15:00 - Arrive , pitch tent, setup

Bring lights and decorations for your tent and the barn.

19:00 - Communal Bring and Share Barbie.

Bring some food to share with everybody. Enjoy "over caramelised" food items from the barbie

19.30 - Annual Fantasy Awards and Quiz Kick off

The Bristol Fantasy Orchestra awards. Get your acceptance speeches written and practice smiling while thinking "it should have been me".
Jo has set a quiz for us all ( with prizes ). Randomly selected teams of four and 24hrs to solve. No peeking on Google. That's cheating, basically. If we find out you're toast.

20:00 - Bar opens - Possibly earlier

Note the terms of their licence mean you can't consume your own alcohol in the barn

21:00 - DJ Ole

Our very own DJ and his eclectically extensive range of real music not streamed from a server farm in South Africa. Possibly in a dress.

23:00 - Bar closes. Amplified music curfew. Campfire 'til the early hours

Sit around the fire and commune with your fellow Fantasians, Amblers and guests. Talk bx and sing lovely songs

Saturday

08:00 - Breakfast

The Ashen Plains food wagon will be serving breakfasts. Cash only

10.30 - Froga session

Froga ? Nothing to do with a frog . Of course its Yoga with out very own Freya !

11:30 - Miriam's vocal workshop

No experience necessary. If you've a voice of any sort, bring it along and out choir leader will show you how to use it.

12:30 - Instrument tryout

Bring a spare instrument for someone to try out, or let someone loose on your main instrument. Wrestle with a trombone. Marvel at how difficult it is to play the violin. Or sax. Or trumpet. Other instruments are, of course, available

13:00 - 'The Ambling Experience'

Unfortunately the Ambling Band can not attend in full this year. However a tiny handful of representatives would like you to join them to play one Ambling tune. No previous experience necessary. Find out how it feels to play music as part of an anarchic cooperative. Wear boots of some kind (the more outrageous/silly the better but don't worry if you only have wellies) and something pink. All instruments and choir are welcome.

14:00 - Improvisation basics

Simon ( soprano sax ) Greening will help us overcome our fear of improvisation with some confidence building basic techniques.

15:00 - Games

Party games FO style. Shakey egg and spoon, music stand steeplechase ( I made that up) etc

16:00 - Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea Party

Bring some cake and a mad hat.

16:30 Open mic

The many and varied talents from within our ranks go off message for a bit. Will Kate return with the bagpipes ?

18.30 - Curry (laid on for us, no need to cook!) incl vege and vegan
- Quiz marking and results.

19.30 - Music performance - TBA
21:00 - DJ Ole's Silent Disco

It's our favourite DJ again with a silent disco so we can groove on past the music curfew

23:00 - Bar closes
00:00 - Campfire 'til the early hours

Sunday

08:00 - Breakfast

The Ashen Plains food wagon will be serving breakfasts. Cash only

10.00 TBA

12:00 Frexiteers Farewell

We wave bye bye to the Fantasians who are playing at the festival in Wales

12:00 Remainers Short Ramble and Pub Lunch at The New Inn

We can sing Ramble On. It's about 20 mins to the pub. Should be enough for most of us. The path is a bit steep, mind.

Afternoon - Clear-up. Don't forget to remove all your crap from the site

Vacate site by 18:00
